Be sure that the box is securely attached to the building structure so it can support the weight of the fixture. But large light fixtures especially large hanging chandelier fixtures are not cheap or easy to replace when they re installed 17 feet up in the air. It is dangerous to install a ceiling fixture without this ground pathway.

The ground connection on a ceiling light fixture can vary depending on the type of fixture and ceiling box you have. Check the electrical box in the ceiling where the fixture is attached. You may find several pairs of wires in the ceiling box.
