The wheelwork is more rigorous and more challenging assignments are given. Forming techniques surface development and glazing and kiln firing practices will be introduced. Students will learn the basic vocabulary of ceramics as well as methods of surface treatment firing and other related aspects.

Students will be able to discriminate between traditional and advanced ceramics. This course is intended for those studying ceramics for the first time and is a comprehensive introduction to the craft of clay working. There is a course fee of 20 00. Ceramics 2 is designed for students who have completed ceramics i and want to perfect and refine their abilities in ceramics.

This course will provide instruction and practical forming experience as it relates to the design and production of ceramics. Students explore three dimensional design while developing both useful and sculptural forms. Students will be able to use defect notation thermodynamics to explain the point defect chemistry of ceramics including the use of brouwer kröger vink diagrams. Course description this course provides an introductory exposure to the history of ceramics and a beginning level experience in the use of clay as a fine art medium.

The primary emphasis is on studio work leading to a portfolio of finished pieces by the end of the semester. This course provides a comprehensive study in methods of sculpture hand built clay construction and basic wheel throwing techniques. There is no pre requisite for this class. Students will develop skills required to plan and execute intermediate.

Ceramics 1 course description ceramics 1 is an introductory course in ceramics covering the three basic methods of hand building. Both the functional and sculptural ceramic traditions will be explored. Creativity and quality craftsmanship are emphasized.
